Vieux Chateau Saint André belongs to Jean-Claude Berrouet who was the winemaker at Petrus for 44 years until his retirement in 2007.  Berrouet is world renowned for making wines of subtlety and nuance. Berrouet has said, "A wine should tell you the story of the place it came from. Innovation and change are important, but there should be limits on techniques that a winemaker can use and still have a wine classified as a Bordeaux. If I'm a conductor playing Mozart, can I add notes to it? Pretentious men do this. As long as I can make a living doing what I do, I will resist the move to a standard taste.”

With the help of his son, Jean-François Berrouet, they own and run the 8 hectare Vieux Chateau St-Andre in Montagne St Emilion.

The nose offers freshness as well as a slight concentration. It reveals notes of wild blackberry, crunchy wild berries and a touch of crunchy wild strawberry associated with a hint of raspberry, toasted touches as well as a subtle hint of vanilla and a  touch of pepper in the background. The palate is fruity, fresh, and well-balanced, it expresses notes of cassis and crunchy wild berries associated with touches of crunchy red berries, sweet spices as well as a very discreet hint of nutmeg and almond.
