Il Macchione Rosso di Montepulciano 2018
Il Macchione Rosso di Montepulciano 2018
A love for genuine things, for Mother Earth, for wine and for Tuscany, brought Il Macchione to the lands of this farm. The belief in the need to strengthen the alliance between man and the environment that hosts him, inspired them to instil new life into the already rich tradition of Montepulciano’s "Noble Wine". They consider themselves to be simple custodians of these splendid places as they bring together the toils of this ancient work, with the joy of conveying pleasure and an emotional experience with their wines.
The key to understanding the quality of this delicious wine is that it comes from their own Prugnolo Gentile vines, using declassified Vino Nobile fruit. From two vineyards – one facing the paese (of Montepulciano), the other overlooking the ospedale – with an average of 15 year old vines between them. As with the rest of the property, no chemicals or herbicides are used on the vineyard, and the vinification is spontaneous, using a ‘pied de cuve’ to kick the cement tank, wild fermentation off, with 15 to 20 days on the skins, followed by 10 months in French oak barrels.
A Rosso di Montepulciano produced with 100% Sangiovese.
Tasting Notes
A lovely deep Ribena-esque colour. On the nose it expresses pleasant sensations of cherry, raspberry, red flowers and delicate spices. Consistent with the palate where it is fresh and savory, with silky tannins perfectly integrated into the body.
Food Pairing
Excellent with meat-based first and second courses, particularly suitable for a fillet with green pepper.
